Black mould on shower silicone? Wrap it
How to remove mould from silicone
Dry the sealant, spray a mould remover onto kitchen roll, press it along the silicone, leave for the time on the label, then rinse and dry. Deep-rooted black mould means it's time to reseal.
Use one mould product only. Never mix bleach-based mould spray with vinegar, ammonia or toilet cleaner: it releases toxic gas. Keep the window open, wear gloves and keep children and pets out.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Ventilate the bathroom and put on gloves
- Dry the silicone completely
- Spray mould remover onto strips of kitchen roll and press them onto the sealant
- Leave for the label time (often a few hours)
- Peel off, rinse well and dry, then keep the seal dry after every shower
