How to clean a washing machine drum
Most front loaders have a Drum Clean or Tub Clean program. Run it empty once a month with a washing machine cleaner or a cup of white vinegar in the drum.
Use one product only. Never mix bleach with vinegar or with an ammonia cleaner. If you used bleach, run an extra rinse before anything acidic.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Empty the drum and remove any lost socks from the seal
- Select Drum Clean, Tub Clean or the hottest cotton cycle
- Add a washing machine cleaner, or one cup of white vinegar in the drum
- Run it empty and leave the door open afterwards
