The little door at the bottom of your washer
How to clean a washing machine filter
Front loaders have a drain pump filter behind a small flap at the bottom front. Drain it into a tray, unscrew the filter, clear the lint and coins, and screw it back tight.
Unplug first and let water cool: it can be hot. Expect more water than you think.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Unplug the machine and wait for any hot water to cool
- Open the small flap at the bottom front
- Put a shallow tray and towels down, then pull out the little drain hose or slowly unscrew the filter
- Remove lint, hair, coins and hair grips and rinse the filter
- Screw it back fully and check for leaks on the next wash
