Your fridge runs hotter because of dust you can't see
How to clean fridge coils
Condenser coils at the back or behind the bottom kick plate collect dust and make the fridge work harder. Unplug it and vacuum them twice a year.
Unplug first. Coils and fan can be sharp; wear gloves. No liquids or chemical sprays on the coils.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Unplug the fridge
- Pull it out or remove the bottom grille
- Vacuum the coils with a brush attachment or a coil brush
- Clean the floor underneath and plug it back in
