Water at the bottom of your fridge? Clear this hole
How to clean a fridge drain hole
Fridges have a small drain hole at the back wall that clogs with food. Flush it gently with warm water using a syringe or turkey baster, and clear it with a pipe cleaner.
Don't use sharp objects or chemical drain cleaners; they damage the cooling system.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Remove items blocking the back wall
- Find the small hole or channel at the bottom of the back panel
- Push a pipe cleaner gently into the hole to loosen debris
- Flush with 10-20 ml warm water using a syringe or baster
- Wipe up any water
