The descale light is telling you something
How to descale a coffee maker
Run a descaling solution or a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water through the machine, then flush it with 2-3 cycles of clean water.
Use either a descaler or vinegar, not both, and never add bleach. Check the manual: some brands void the warranty with vinegar.
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach plus ammonia, vinegar or other acids releases toxic gases. Use one product at a time, rinse between them, ventilate, and unplug appliances before you clean them.
Step by step
- Empty the carafe and filter basket
- Fill the reservoir with descaler or equal parts white vinegar and water
- Run a brew cycle, pausing halfway for 30 minutes
- Run 2-3 cycles of fresh water to rinse
